Robin and Linda Williams: Free At LastDear Friends,Yes, we're free at last. The light is shining on this household as we emerge from a week of quarantining ourselves because of COVID and get back into life. This is our second encounter with the dread affliction, the first repeat in three years, and it wasn't near the ordeal as the first. But still we had to retreat from the world. We read and listened to music which led us, independent of each other, to Townes Van Zandt, his music, his videos (some solo and some with his trusted sideman, Mickey White), and to Mickey's memoir, "Another Mickey: Ruminations of a Texas Guitar Slinger," which has Townes as a central character. Townes was, has been and always will be a huge part of our musical story and it was gratifying to discover some heretofore unknown songs of his. Now we're up and at'em and glad to feel healthy, especially since we have the 45th annual Oak Grove Folk Music Festival coming up. As far as we're concerned, the OGFMF has the best audiences in the history of the music business. It has a rock-solid, special place in our hearts as we were actively influental in getting it started and helped run it for its first seven or eight years. It's in a beautiful setting without a bad seat in the house and, year after year, the performers and audience members get to feel what it's like when music-loving friends present some of the finestartists to be seen and heard. Our video, "The Flimflam Blues," has gotten a good response. Thanks to Art Menius for helping us out with getting the song out to the world. The song is important to us and we'll keep reminding folks of it for the near future.
