December's 2015 Email MessageDear Friends,Wow! It's hard to believe that December is here, except for the fact that it's dark around 5:00 and we got three Christmas cards in the mail today. Now there are some folks who are on top of this Christmas thing. Fall in the Shenandoah Valley has been lovely. We've done a lot of work around the old place here in Middlebrook, especially on a building that should have fallen down years ago but was so stubborn it finally outlasted our ignoring it. So we decided to jack it up, sure it up and save it. It's nice to see it back to some semblance of being square and level and to know it'll be there when we're gone. The old oak siding is a beautiful shade of gray and most of it is still ok, but we're still working on the outside. We had a fine Thanksgiving here, it being the first one we've spent away from the Outer Banks of NC in many, many years. We had dinners with old and new friends and thought to ourselves, how good is this? And then there was an outstanding music party on Saturday night at Lorie Lichtenwalner and Bill Ceccolini's house where we had a great time playing with James Leva and his daughter Vivi and later on with John Lilly and Jane Rothfield. It was chilly on the front porch, but all the other rooms of the house had music going, so the front porch was where we started out. By the time the cold drove us inside the dining room had opened up and we finished up there. So, Thanksgiving of 2015 was memorable. Time at home is allowing us to spend some time working on new songs. We don't have anything finished yet but it feels good to again be deep in the process. As well we're putting a good amount of effort in on our Christmas and Holiday repertoire and it's always fun to re-visit these old favorites. We're getting them ship-shape for our annual Holiday show this weekend at Ashland Coffee and Tea, a wonderful music room in Ashland, VA. We'll also mention our annual Hank Williams Tribute gig with our good buddies Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, Mark Shatz, Dave Chappell and this year's special guest Robbie Fulks. If you're anywhere close to either one of these gigs, drop by. We'll be glad to see you. Bumper Sticker Of The Month: Life is like a blind date. Sometimes you have to have a little faith. We truly give thanks for the life we've carved out and for all you folks who have taken interest in our music. The dark days of December are brighter because of you. We hope you have a good month and a wonderful Holiday season. We'll visit again in January.
