February's EmailDear Friends,We're home for a few days, in between trips to Tennessee and South Carolina, with just enough time to recuperate, get the clothes washed, get the van cleaned up and our business straight, and enjoy these 60 degree days before we head off again. We planned to get this newsletter out last week while on the road but we couldn't get enough time to ourselves to get it done. We started the trip with a meeting with two new friends, Nick Piper and Cathy Bush, and one old pal, Eugene Wolf, at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA where we presented some new songs we're working on and discussed the script of "Stonewall Country," the musical we helped put together many years ago with Don Baker. Cathy, a trained dramaturge, with our and Don's blessing, has done a fabulous job of revising the script, whittling it down so that five people can carry the production and yet not lose the spark. She and Nick, the Associate Director at the Barter, have been invaluable in making this production happen. We left the meeting impressed and look forward to April and working with Eugene who will direct the show. We then drove to Nashville where we spent three nights with family and friends and played a memorable show at the Station Inn with twenty or so other performers, some famous and some not, singing mostly songs written by our friend Paul Craft. The show ran for three and a half hours straight and the energy in the room never wavered. The real tribute to Paul was the fact that so many other, not-just-good-but-great, songwriters were in the audience. Keeping it all together and fresh was a crackerjack band fronted by Shawn Camp and including Stuart Duncan, Rob Ikes,, Larry Atamanuak, and Mike Bub. It's been almost a week and we're still thinking about the show. Bumper Sticker Of The Month: I'm a thief. I stole a calendar and got 12 months. This week we'll join with our buddy, Jim Watson, and head down to Clinton, SC where we'll play a gig at Presbyterian College, Robin's alma mater. Upon our return we'll get back to work on all things "Stonewall Country" which will consume all our efforts until we join our friends at "A Prairie Home Companion" for a weeklong cruise. It's going to be quite a gathering. Yep, Robin and Linda are still living the dream. We hope this finds you busy and well.
Your pals,
