Dear Friends, Our new year has begun on a very positive note. We've sold our old band mini-bus. Some nice folks from the Tidewater area of Virginia came up this morning and picked it up. They got a good deal and are happy and we're pleased to have it sold. In giving them the tour of the vehicle and showing them how everything works, we got to thinking how important that vehicle was to us and how it enabled us to do what we do. We put over two hundred and forty three mostly trouble free miles on that old rig. Hope you all had a fine holiday season. Ours was exceptional. When we left to do our Christmas shows, the 25th seemed a long way in the future. When we got home late on December 19th the sobering reality that we had just four days to get ready became fully apparent. But we didn't get stressed out and just got done what we could get done and didn't worry about what we didn't get to. Our white pine Christmas tree was a volunteer that grew up in our junipers in the side yard. It took us about fifteen minutes to cut and set up and Linda decorated it with a lot of old ornaments, most of which came from her family. As this is written, it sits there in unpretentious splendor and cheerily lights up our living room. We saw a lot of folks and had a wonderful Christmas dinner at our house with seven good friends. It's fun to look back on. Things will start to heat up fairly soon. We'll play a couple of gigs this weekend. The Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville is a newly renovated venue that has helped make C'ville a "go to" town for performers. This'll be our first time there since the renovation and we're looking forward to returning. On Saturday we'll do our bi-annual benefit performance in Fincastle, VA for the Botetourt County Food Pantry and the Botetourt County Social Services Emergency Winter Fuel Fund. These people help a lot of folks in need and we're pleased to be working with them again. Then we'll head to Nashville towards the end of the month and record another CD. We have some good, new songs we need to record and we're looking forward to working with Jim Rooney who's producing the CD. "The Roonster" is a great guy and has added a lot to the world of music having produced such artists as John Prine, Iris Dement, Tom Paxton, Tom Rush, Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and many others. We'll let you know how it comes out in the next newsletter. It's gotten cold here in Middlebrook and feels like winter, but the sun is shining and there is no snow on the ground. We hope it stays away until after this weekend. January has good hunkering down weather, which is good if you're trying to get some work done.
