Robin and Linda Williams: 2014's FirstDear Friends,Yes, as we write the first missive of 2014, we think back to May of 1999 when we first started sending email newsletters out. We procrastinated for months on making the change from the snail mail email list to the internet. What was wrong with us? We're filled with optimism and gratitude as we head into 2014. How can we not be when we have so many friends? So many times in 2013 our friends have caused us to pause, to stop thinking of ourselves and our problems (some petty and some not) and give thanks for all the aid, the love and compassion that was shown to us. Our New Year's resolution is to be worthy of the friendship we've been shown and to repay in kind. And didn't 2013 go fast! Robin's father said to him a month or two before he died at the age of 89, "My life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer I get to the end, the faster it goes." We know exactly what he meant and we encounter examples of it every day. Just this morning we were listening to some Dave Van Ronk music and were shocked when we discovered from the CD cover that he's been dead over eleven years. We would have said he's been gone no more than five. Of course, Van Ronk was such a strong performer and personality that his bigger-than-life presence is always close. We closed off 2013 with two Hank Williams Tribute shows that were, as usual, one of the highlights of the year. His songs are part of the foundation upon which our music is built and there's nothing better than getting real close to them a couple of nights a year. And we're starting 2014 with two weekends of work and are looking forward to joining up with the Fine Group tomorrow in Carrboro, NC. It's been since before Thanksgiving that we've done a Fine Group gig and we've been woodshedding every day to make sure we can keep up with Jim and Chris. Bumper Sticker Of The Month: Don't move your lips when reading this, it's embarrassing We're wishing you all the best in 2014 and hope to see you at one of the stops along the way.
Your pals,
