Patti Simmons, our truehearted webmistress, is standing by in her North Carolina home, thinking only of how quickly she can get your CD into a mailer and then to the closest U.S. Post Office. This is uncharted territory for us as we've never had a "pre-release release" before. But it's'just another in a long line of "firsts" when it comes to this CD. Making the recording in our living room and self-releasing a CD, i.e., finding the photographer and the cover designer, selecting a manufacturer, hiring a radio promoter and a social media guru - all of these are firsts for us. These chores have previously all been handled by record companies. But, for this project, we are the record company and we've been like old dogs learning new tricks. So far, things have been positive. Art Menius, who is handling our radio promotion, informed us last week that "A Better Day A-Coming," the first single from the CD, made it in the Top Ten singles of the 'ACC chart of reporting stations compiled by the Music Meeting Directory. After all these years, we can say, with straight faces and our fingers uncrossed, "we're in the Top 10." We're taking this news as not-bad-at-all, maybe even pretty-doggone-good. And the meaningful comments about the CD from the guys who played on it have meant a lot to us. We sent them the final mixes as soon as we had them and, with their permission, we'll include a couple of their reactions. Mark Schatz, who played bass on the CD, wrote: "It's really lovely, and I'm proud to be a part of it. Great songs, I've always been a fan of your singing, especially the unique blend of your two voices, nice, big, warm mix, everyone played great." And David McLaughlin who played a variety of instruments said: "A Better Day A-Coming is one of the best projects in which I have been involved. Every song is totally awesome, not a single piece less than spectacular! It's uplifting and entertaining. I absolutely love this new work . . ." We've been bolstered by their thoughts as we've dealt with the details and minutia of releasing this recording. These guys are musical heavy weights, and this is high praise. No need for us to get careless now. Though we're not completely out of this pandemic, we think there's "A Better Day A-Coming."
