Robin and Linda Williams: Break Out The RakesDear Friends,Yes, the first leaves are beginning to turn, the nights are getting cooler, and it won't be long before the motels here in the Shenandoah Valley are filled with folks coming to enjoy "the color." And we'll be breaking out the rakes. But, right now, we're gearing up for fall in a different way: a series of gigs in the Midwest, starting with Ames, Iowa, where we'll return to the Maintenance Shop on the ISU campus. We've been playing there for nearly 50 years--though we jokingly say it feels like since the 1930s! Over the years, we've made many friends in Ames, and we're glad to be reconnecting. Next, we'll head to Minnesota, which holds a special place in our hearts. Robin spent a summer there in the early '70s, which led to our first recording contract. Not long after, we found ourselves on a little radio show called A Prairie Home Companion, and that was the beginning of a long relationship with the Twin Cities and the surrounding areas. St. Cloud and Minneapolis played pivotal roles in our early career, and we can't wait to return. On our way back home, we'll stop in Madison to play at a new venue for us, The Bur Oak. We've played in Madison many times with APHC, but this will be our first R&L show there since the days of the Wild Hog in the Woods coffeehouse. We're hoping to squeeze in a visit to Spruce Tree Music, one of our favorite music stores, while we're in town. For those of you in Virginia, we have a special event coming up at the Wayne Theatre in Waynesboro. We'll be helping to celebrate the second season of Life in the Heart Land, a PBS series produced by our friends at Deep Structure Productions. We wrote and recorded a song for the show's first season, which went on to win an Emmy, and we're happy to be part of the upcoming celebration. The event is free, and you can find more details at: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/61446671/life-in-the-heart-land-sneak-peek-and-reception-waynesboro-wayne-theatre?language=en&country=US&searchType=venue And while we're sharing links, don't forget to check out our song, "The Flim Flam Blues," if you haven't already. It's a piece we're especially proud of, and we'd love for you to share it with friends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B3cLvfS2pw. In other news, our friend John Lowell (https://johnlowell.com) has recently recorded our song, "Step It Out Nancy," on his latest album, Snow on the Wineglass. This month, his album hit #1 on the ndxpress.com Western Music charts. As well he was just awarded the Montana Governor's Arts Award-- Montana's highest honor in the arts. Congratulations, John! Ê Bumper Sticker of the Month (Thanks to Joe Hall): Got polio? ÊMe neither.Ê Thanks, Science! We're grateful for your support. We hope to see you at one of the stops along the way. Remember, live music makes you smarter. Ê
