Robin and Linda Williams: September's Cool 2009Dear Friends,It's turning cool. The leaves on the black walnut trees are turning yellow which, around here, is the first sign of Fall. It won't be long before we'll need our hard hats just to walk out on our deck. It only takes once to learn that getting nailed by a falling walnut is not all that pleasant. And speaking of cool, we have a cool weekend's work coming up. We'll stop in Kent, OH for a night at the Kent Stage on Thursday. What a great venue. We've been looking forward to this for a long time. Then we'll head up to Remus, MI for the Wheatland Festival. Those folks have been friends of Robin and Linda for many, many years and it is on our Top Ten list of fun places to play. Another cool thing is a DVD of a live performance that we filmed in August. A hundred friends of Robin and Linda Williams and Their Fine Group gathered at the Fletcher Collins Theater in Staunton, VA and we played two sets of music while three or four cameras in the hands of trained professionals did their thing. Jimmy Gaudreau, Jim Watson and Chris Brashear were with us and it was a real treat having the "Mighty Fine Group" assembled. The five of us make a powerful sound. Now we're in the "post-production" stage and we're hoping the cameras can make us look the way we see ourselves in our own minds. That, of course, will never be. We're looking forward to having it out by Christmas. and will keep you posted. No less cool was a couple of recording projects we participated in. Trent Wagler and The Steel Wheels are one of our favorite young groups traveling the highways these days. We were pleased when they asked us to help out on a song for their new project. And we had a great time in Big Stone Gap, VA at Maggard's Studio working with Dave Eggar, an incredible cellist who's putting together a huge project with Appalachian musicians, reggae musicians, street musicians from New York City and who knows what all else. We got in a full day's work there and really enjoyed ourselves. And the coolest thing of all is the seventh annual Fortune Williams Music Festival which is fast approaching. The closer it gets the more excited we get. The Friday night songwriters show with Pat Alger and Kenny Beard is going to be special. The Saturday show will be second to none with Heather Berry opening, Jay Ungar, Molly Mason and Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives. Of course, we and our co-host, Jimmy Fortune, will perform both days There are still some tickets available at 540.332.7850. Hope this finds you all well and happy. Our schedule for the fall is listed below. Come on out and see some live music. Have we ever mentioned that we think music makes you smarter? Your pals, Robin and Linda |
